Giuseppe "Piddu" di Carlo is born in Corleone on 23 July 1880, the son of Vincenzo di Carlo and Santa Castro.[1] He is named after his paternal grandfather, as is traditional for the first born son.
Giuseppe is baptized the day after his birth. His godparents are Francesco Scalisi and Calogera Marino, a married couple.[2] Calogera is Giuseppe's great aunt.
Giuseppe immigrates with his brother, Giovanni, sister Luigia, and cousin Salvatore Campagna[1], arriving in New York on 8 November 1905 on the SS Italia. Based on the manifest, if Vincent di Carlo is correct, Salvatore Campagna travels as Salvatore di Carlo. The siblings are joining their brother Antonino di Carlo at 2028 First Av., on the corner of 105th St., in New York City. Salvatore is going to his brother in law Salvatore Ridulfo (“Riddullo”) at 1144 1st Av, NYC.[3]
Giuseppe leaves New York and returns on the SS Madonia, arriving 28 November 1906.[1]
Giuseppe marries Bernarda "Bessie" Spoto on 11 December 1909 in Manhattan. The groom in this record is 28 (b. 1881), the son of Vincenzo di Carlo and Santa Costra.[4]
According to Vincent's history, the 1910 census, on 7 May shows Giuseppe living at 2047 2nd Avenue East, Manhattan with his sisters Rosa and Luisa, and brother Giovanni.
According to Vincent's history, the 1920 census shows Giuseppe living in Bellville, Essex County, New Jersey with his wife and first child, Vincent.[1]
Giuseppe and Bessie have two children, Vincent (1911) and Frank (1925).[1]
